This fall, 9th Street Lab is offering small group, outdoor workshops. Workshop capacity is designed for learning pod & family pod groups of 2, 4, and 6 participants. Our outdoor workshop space is set up to keep safe.

Workshop Descriptions

WOODWORKING ESSENTIALS, 9-12 year olds, after school

 
Learn the essential techniques and tools of woodworking and build a unique project. In this 3-week workshop, we learn to use the essential hand tools and learn the basic skills for building with wood. We learn how to read drawings, how to measure out and mark wood, learn hand-sawing techniques with Japanese saws, assembling techniques, drilling, hammering, and problem-solving along the way. November 4, 11, 18, $120. (WAITLIST)

REVERSE ENGINEERING - Discovering the E in STEM, 7-12 year olds, weekend 


Taking apart everyday objects, from sewing machines and car engines to laptops and blenders, reveals a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and math. In this workshop, we learn to use tools to take things apart: appliances, computers, car engines, toys, and more. In our exploration, we discover how something works—the parts, systems, technologies, mechanisms, simple machines, and unusual materials. November 1, $45. (WAITLIST)

WOODWORKING MINICOURSE, 7-12 year olds, weekend 


In this workshop we learn basic skills in woodworking - hammering, sawing, drilling, and assembly.  We learn to use basic woodworking tools and techniques. We take on a wood design challenge and build a unique project. This is a great entry-level workshop and also offers the design challenges for those with woodworking skills. October 28  $45.
