Making Instruments

In this first-time workshop, we honed our building skills by exploring the roots tradition of making your own instruments.  Taking everyday objects and applying our skills in building, we made diddley bows and kalimbas.  We learned how sound is made using everyday materials - wire, strings, gourds, cigar boxes, rakes, nuts and bolts, and more.  With a simple one-string guitar and glass jars we created great sounds and rhythms.  We used gourds to create great sounding kalimbas.
